A dated cream-cabinet kitchen rebuilt in navy shaker cabinetry carried to the ceiling, with white quartz counters, a stone mosaic backsplash and new wood-look flooring throughout.

Running a colour this dark top to bottom only works if you give the light somewhere else to go — here the counters and the backsplash take that job, so the navy reads as depth instead of weight. Quartz runs the perimeter and the island because it shrugs off hard water and never needs sealing. Carrying the uppers all the way to the ceiling turns the dust shelf a standard install leaves behind into a glass-front row worth looking at, and lighting those doors from the inside stops the wall closing up. The island keeps a plain squared edge with enough overhang to actually sit at. Carrying one flooring through the whole space, rather than changing it at the kitchen threshold, is the single cheapest way to make a floor plan feel larger than it is.
