The hickory cabinets stayed; everything around them was renewed — new countertops, a tiled backsplash, pendant lighting and dark fixtures, with matching new tops and sinks for both bathroom vanities.

Not every kitchen needs a gut. When the cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, replacing the surfaces — counters, backsplash, lighting, fixtures — buys most of the transformation at a fraction of the cost, and the house stays livable while it happens. Swapping the tiled tops for stone and running new tile behind them changed what this kitchen feels like without moving a single wall, and carrying the same counter and faucet language into both bathrooms ties the whole house together.
